Vedanta Expands Transgender Workforce to 75 Employees

Vedanta has strengthened its commitment to workplace inclusion by employing 75 transgender individuals across its businesses, including Vedanta Aluminium, Hindustan Zinc, Sesa Goa, FACOR and Cairn Oil & Gas. The initiative reflects sustained hiring efforts since 2022 to build equitable opportunities across operations, corporate and technical roles.

Transgender employees are engaged in functions such as operations, finance, logistics, HR, CSR, healthcare and security, with provisions for internal mobility to support career progression. The company has implemented structured policies, including Equal Opportunity, anti-discrimination frameworks and LGBTQIA+ inclusion initiatives.

Dedicated support measures include a gender affirmation policy offering financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh and 30 days of leave, housing support, education assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh, and a buddy programme for workplace integration. Gender-neutral washrooms and inclusive housing policies have also been introduced to address social and structural challenges.

Vedanta has partnered with organisations such as Periferry and the National Network for Transgender Persons to support awareness, sensitisation and talent outreach. Regular engagement initiatives, including mentorship programmes, town halls and leadership interactions, further reinforce inclusion across the organisation.

The company’s approach focuses on enabling dignity, safety and long-term career growth, while fostering an inclusive workplace culture that supports diversity and equal opportunity.
