BEML Unveils India’s First 35-Ton Electric Dump Truck
2026-04-13
BEML Limited has recently unveiled India’s first indigenous 35-ton electric dump truck at its Mysuru complex, marking a significant milestone in sustainable mining equipment. The launch was led by Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy in the presence of senior officials and partners.
Designed to deliver high productivity with zero tailpipe emissions, the electric dump truck aligns with India’s ESG commitments and carbon reduction goals. Built to global standards, the platform reflects BEML’s focus on clean and future-ready technologies for mining and infrastructure sectors.
The truck is powered by a high-efficiency Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) and features a 35-ton payload capacity with a gross vehicle weight of around 60 tons. It is optimised for heavy-duty mining conditions and stop-start duty cycles, delivering energy efficiency of 85–90 per cent—significantly higher than conventional diesel equipment.
Equipped with a regenerative braking system, the vehicle enables energy recovery during operations. Its Battery Thermal Management System with liquid cooling ensures safety and enhances the lifespan of the 300 kWh lithium-ion battery.
The platform also offers strong economic advantages, including up to 60–70 per cent savings in energy costs and a 40–60 per cent reduction in overall operating costs. Lower maintenance requirements further strengthen its value proposition, with a payback period of approximately one to two years depending on usage.
Built for reliability, the truck features IP67/IP68-rated electrical systems and integrated fire protection. BEML has also developed scalable charging infrastructure capable of achieving 0–80 per cent charging in 60 to 90 minutes, supporting continuous operations.
Speaking on the occasion, Shantanu Roy, CMD, BEML Limited, said, “The launch of India’s first indigenous 35-ton Electric Dump Truck marks a defining moment in BEML’s journey towards sustainable and advanced engineering solutions. This development reflects our commitment to innovation, indigenisation, and environmental stewardship.”
With this development, BEML strengthens its position in mining and construction equipment while advancing India’s vision for sustainable and self-reliant industrial growth.
