TRUMPF cuts hot forming costs by 20%

TRUMPF has introduced a new laser technology solution that can reduce component costs by up to 20 per cent when cutting hot-formed automotive body parts. The system combines a new X-Blast 2.0 cutting nozzle, next-generation fibre lasers and BrightLine Speed beam shaping technology.
The company said users can replace nitrogen with compressed air as the cutting gas, lowering cutting gas costs by up to 75 per cent. The solution is designed for continuous high-productivity 3D laser cutting operations in the automotive sector.
TRUMPF added that the redesigned nozzle increases the distance between nozzle and sheet, reducing collisions, unplanned downtime and maintenance needs. In tests, the new nozzles operated for more than three months without replacement.
BrightLine Speed enables faster cutting speeds with lower laser power, while the new fibre lasers improve energy efficiency and reduce total power consumption per component.
