XCMG truck clears hydrogen durability test

XCMG’s hydrogen-powered heavy truck has completed China’s first full-industry-chain durability verification programme for hydrogen products, called the ‘Hydrogen Marathon’, conducted by CATARC’s New Energy Testing Center. As the first vehicle in the programme, it achieved a pure hydrogen driving range of at least 500 km, with Xuzhou XCMG Auto Manufacturing becoming the only OEM to clear this round.

Launched in September 2025, the programme tests durability and range under standardised conditions. XCMG’s truck uses a self-developed 300 kW fuel cell system, a 510 kW drive motor and Type IV hydrogen storage cylinders that cut weight by over 20 per cent. The company said its new energy commercial vehicle fleet has logged 4.43 billion km, reducing carbon emissions by 4.6 million tonnes.
