Italian Machinery Exports Stay Stable Amid Uncertainty
2026-04-25
Italian construction machinery exports remained broadly stable in 2025 at 3.226 billion euros, marking a marginal 0.5 per cent decline from the previous year. The sector held firm despite global economic uncertainty, trade tensions and weaker international demand, according to Unacea’s third International Trade Report-2026, prepared with CER.
Earthmoving machinery continued to drive performance, with exports rising 7.1 per cent to 1.55 billion euros. Tower cranes grew 3.2 per cent to 158.1 million euros, while road-building machinery increased 3.6 per cent to 101.8 million euros. However, aggregate preparation machinery, drilling machinery and concrete machinery reported declines.
Export growth was recorded across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the United States, Brazil, North Africa and other African markets. However, the sector’s trade surplus fell 14.1 per cent to nearly 911 million euros, reflecting continuing international pressures.
The industry remains a key part of Italy’s mechanical engineering sector, contributing around 0.3 per cent to GDP and supporting nearly 85,000 jobs, including allied industries.
The 32nd SaMoTer International Triennial Construction Machinery Exhibition will be held in Verona from 6–9 May 2026, bringing together more than 500 exhibitors across 50,000 sq m to focus on innovation, sustainability and digitisation.
