PAIMANA Tracks 1,941 Central Sector Projects Worth Rs 41.50 Trillion

MoSPI has strengthened monitoring of central sector infrastructure through the PAIMANA portal, which, as of March 2026, tracks 1,941 projects worth Rs 41.50 trillion (Rs 41.50 tn). Cumulative expenditure on these projects is Rs 19.93 trillion (Rs 19.93 tn), or about 48.02 per cent of the revised project cost, with monitoring across 17 central ministries.

A substantial number of projects are at advanced stages, with 777 projects exceeding 80 per cent physical progress and 261 projects exceeding 80 per cent financial completion. Many projects cluster at both initial and advanced stages, indicating a mix of newly started works and projects nearing completion. Financial progress tends to be higher in early stages due to upfront expenditure patterns.

Transport and Logistics dominate with 1,428 projects valued at Rs 22.66 trillion (Rs 22.66 tn), while Energy comprises 212 projects worth Rs 10.79 trillion (Rs 10.79 tn). Communication and Water and Sanitation account for smaller shares, at Rs 2.73 trillion and Rs 2.31 trillion, respectively. Social and Commercial projects total Rs 0.79 trillion across 73 projects.

The portfolio includes 786 mega projects, defined as projects with a cost of Rs 10 billion (Rs 10 bn) and above, and 1,155 major projects with costs up to Rs one point five billion (Rs 1.5 bn). Ministry-wise, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways implements 1,120 projects valued at Rs 10.61 trillion, and the Ministry of Railways implements 244 projects worth Rs 8.37 trillion.

In March 2026, 25 projects were commissioned, including the Delhi Ghaziabad Meerut regional rapid transit system corridor valued at Rs 302.74 billion (Rs 302.74 bn) and the Tehri pumped storage plant comprising four 250 megawatt (MW) units with a cost of Rs 83.39 billion (Rs 83.39 bn). Twelve additional road projects were added to PAIMANA during the month. The portal follows a one data one entry principle and integrates with other government systems to automatically update more than 70 per cent of project data, aiding standardised monitoring and decision making.
