Assam to Integrate Smart City Crime and Land Records with NATGRID

Assam has initiated a programme to integrate Smart City systems, police crime records and land revenue databases with the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID). State officials said the move aims to improve information sharing between urban governance bodies and security agencies and to create a single point of access for authorised users. The integration will link municipal service platforms and electronic land records with centralised intelligence infrastructure to support faster response and planning across urban centres.

The state administration outlined a phased implementation that will see data pipelines established between the Smart City project special purpose vehicle, the state police and the revenue department. Technical work will include standardising formats, implementing secure application programming interfaces and ensuring role based access controls. The project is being coordinated by the state information technology department in consultation with federal NATGRID officials and other stakeholders. Third party technology vendors will assist with systems integration.

Officials indicated that the consolidation is intended to accelerate criminal investigations, improve urban service delivery and reduce disputes in property registration by providing timely access to corroborating records. The move is also presented as a measure to strengthen situational awareness for emergency management and urban planning. Data protection provisions and audit trails are being built into the architecture to limit access to authorised personnel and to maintain records of queries.

The government will conduct training for users across departments and phase in functionality in a controlled manner to manage operational risk. Legal and procedural frameworks will be updated to govern inter agency data sharing and accountability. Authorities positioned the initiative as aligning state systems with national priorities for secure, integrated governance and improved public service outcomes. Timelines for rollout will be issued by the state information technology department.
