Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Launch Grih Pravesh of Five Lakh PMAY-G Houses
Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan will attend the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin beneficiary conference and award distribution ceremony in Satara on 15 May 2026. The state ceremony will also include Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar and other senior dignitaries. The schedule places emphasis on housing and rural connectivity initiatives.
During the programme, the Union Minister will launch the Grih Pravesh of five lakh (0.5 million, 0.5 million) completed houses under PMAY-G and will hand over house keys to six beneficiaries, including the beneficiary associated with the completion of the 30 millionth house under the scheme. The handovers form part of a wider drive to accelerate rural housing coverage. State awards under the Maha Awaas Abhiyan will be presented, and a booklet and quarterly magazine will be released.
The Union Government will issue the PMAY-G mother sanction for Maharashtra amounting to Rs 83.685 billion (bn) for the fiscal year 2026-27 and will approve 35 road works under PMGSY-IV at an estimated cost of Rs 1.2298 billion (bn). The road approvals cover 95.99 km and are expected to benefit 35 rural habitations in the State. These measures are intended to improve all-weather connectivity and access to education, healthcare and markets.
Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin remains the flagship scheme to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to eligible rural households and has a cumulative allocation target of 41.5 million houses to States and Union Territories. Against that target, 39.1 mn houses have been sanctioned, and more than 30.3 mn houses have been completed as of 11 May 2026. The statistics underline sustained implementation at the national level.
Maharashtra has shown notable progress with a cumulative target of 4.38 million houses, of which 4.142 million have been sanctioned and 1.792 mn completed, while Satara district shows 55,052 targeted, 54,759 sanctioned and 24,848 completed. Under PMGSY, the State has sanctioned over 34,000 km of rural roads and more than 1,000 bridges with investments exceeding Rs 150 billion (bn), including projects using New and Green Technology. The programme is expected to further strengthen rural transformation through integrated housing and connectivity interventions.
