ASMS and BITS Pilani Sign MoU to Build Rural Digital Ecosystem
On 15 May 2026 Avio Smart Market Stack Limited (ASMS) signed a memorandum of understanding with Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani) to develop a next-generation rural digital ecosystem. The partnership aims to deliver scalable technology solutions and to reach over 40 million farmers and rural residents through applied research and implementation. The agreement was presented as a convergence of industry capacity and academic expertise.
Under the pact the institutions will co-develop an integrated platform powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain and advanced data analytics. The focus is on evidence-based solutions to improve governance, operational efficiency and digital inclusion, and to enhance rural service delivery. Design priorities include scalability and replicability across varied geographies.
The collaboration targets challenges such as limited access to formal financial services, uneven availability of agricultural inputs, unreliable market intelligence and gaps in healthcare access. It will also address demand for climate-resilient farming by integrating data-driven advisories and resource optimisation. Combining ASMS’s extensive grassroots network with BITS Pilani’s research strengths aims to produce solutions that are impactful and sustainable.
The partnership will provide applied research and innovation opportunities for BITS Pilani students and scholars, with early pilots in crop yield prediction, digital financial literacy and e-governance programmes tailored to rural needs. Initial pilots are intended as testbeds to refine algorithms, field workflows and measurement frameworks for social and economic outcomes. The structure aims to convert pilot learning into wider implementation.
Dr Raja Krishna Murthy M, Head-Agri Tech Business at ASMS, said the collaboration represented a major step towards a technology-driven and inclusive rural ecosystem in India. He added that combining academic rigour with industry-scale implementation was expected to accelerate delivery of innovations across agriculture, digital governance, financial inclusion and rural livelihoods, creating measurable social and economic impact for millions. The partners intend the model to serve as an example of outcome-driven industry-academia collaboration.
