Modi Launches Rs 29,700 Mn Development Push In Daman
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, dedicated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth around Rs 29,700 mn in Daman during a visit that formed the second leg of his regional engagements on June five, 2026. The package covers healthcare, civil aviation, tourism, connectivity, infrastructure and public welfare and was presented by the Prime Minister's Office as part of efforts to strengthen public services and regional economies. The announcements followed earlier engagements in Surat, where projects worth around Rs 188,000 million were launched.
A key inauguration was the new terminal building at NAMO Airport in Daman. The terminal will improve regional air connectivity, support tourism growth and enhance access for business travellers and visitors. The airport project is part of broader efforts to integrate smaller regions into the expanding national aviation network.
The Prime Minister dedicated NAMO Hospital, a new healthcare facility that will strengthen access to advanced medical services for residents of Daman and neighbouring areas and reduce reliance on hospitals in larger cities. The PMO said the Daman package spans multiple sectors, including healthcare, civil aviation, tourism, infrastructure development, public welfare and transport connectivity. Authorities said the projects are intended to provide a significant boost to the overall development of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.
The visit also included the laying of foundation stones for four major port-related projects in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep worth around Rs 8,850 mn, covering the development of port facilities on the eastern and western sides of Kalpeni Island and Kadmat Island. The multipurpose jetties will facilitate year-round berthing of large passenger vessels, including cruise vessels of up to 300 metres in length, and will provide integrated facilities for fish handling, fuel distribution, ice supply and boat repair. With the latest announcements, the combined value of projects launched during the Prime Minister's Gujarat and Daman visit exceeded Rs 210,000 mn, reflecting continued government investment in connectivity, public infrastructure and regional development.
