AM Green, VOCPA To Build Green Ammonia Hub At Tuticorin

AM Green and V O Chidambaranar Port Authority have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop VOC Port, Tuticorin, as a strategic green ammonia production and bunkering hub.

The MoU, signed on 28 May 2026, supports India’s energy transition goals and its ambition to become a global leader in green hydrogen and its derivatives. The partnership combines AM Green’s green ammonia production plans with VOCPA’s ammonia handling experience and its status as a designated National Green Hydrogen Hub.

Under the agreement, AM Green and VOCPA plan to develop up to 200 KTPA of green ammonia marine bunkering capacity by 2029-30, with an estimated investment of Rs 20 billion (bn). The capacity could be scaled up to 500 KTPA by 2035, involving a total investment of Rs 50 bn, depending on market demand and adoption of low-carbon marine fuels.

The two organisations will also explore pilot bunkering operations and develop infrastructure required for green ammonia bunkering in line with international best practices.

The agreement further supports AM Green’s plan to develop a 1 MTPA green ammonia production facility near the port, involving an investment of Rs 150 bn. VOCPA will provide active support for the project. AM Green has already completed a significant portion of land acquisition for the green hydrogen-ammonia complex.

The project is also expected to enable Rs 350 bn worth of investment in renewable power generation. AM Green said the development reinforces its target to build more than 4 MTPA of green ammonia production capacity across India by 2030.

By leveraging Tuticorin’s strategic location, port infrastructure and industrial ecosystem, the partnership aims to create a globally competitive green fuels hub serving domestic and international markets.

Gautam Reddy Kumbam, CEO, AM Green, said VOC Port’s existing ammonia infrastructure, green hydrogen hub designation and connectivity to global shipping lanes make the partnership an important part of AM Green’s pan-India commercialisation strategy.

Susanta Kumar Nath, Chairman, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, said VOC Port has been a key part of India’s ammonia supply chain and the collaboration with AM Green will support its transition into a green fuels hub for bunkering and exports.
