Third Railway Line Between Tatanagar And Adityapur Likely By September
The third railway line between Tatanagar and Adityapur is expected to be commissioned by September as work on the corridor advances, according to railway sources. The project to add a fourth line on the busy route is progressing and has been allocated Rs 50.89 billion (bn) in funding. The allocation underscores the focus on increasing capacity and easing congestion on the corridor. Relevant timetables are being adjusted to integrate the new capacity into regular operations.
Construction activity has involved track laying, formation work and signalling upgrades along strategic stretches, with mobilised teams focusing on maintaining regular services while executing the works. Ancillary tasks such as bridge strengthening and station yard remodelling are reported to be underway to support higher traffic volumes. Authorities are coordinating closely with local administrations to ensure land and utilities clearances are addressed. Work sequencing aims to limit passenger inconvenience and to maintain freight schedules.
Project planners have phased the fourth-line implementation to minimise disruption to passenger and freight movement and to accelerate sections that offer immediate relief. The funding provision of Rs 50.89 bn supports materials procurement, contractor mobilisation and technical systems for enhanced train operations. Procurement processes and contractor selection have advanced to enable the timely delivery of critical milestones. Efficient coordination between zonal railway offices and central agencies is reported to be central to the schedule, and to resolve emergent issues promptly and efficiently.
The additional line is intended to bolster capacity on a corridor that handles significant industrial and passenger traffic and to support regional economic activity. Completion of the third line by September would provide operational flexibility while the broader fourth-line project continues to gain momentum. Stakeholders aim to monitor progress closely to align commissioning with network requirements. Officials intend to review performance data after phased commissioning to guide subsequent investments and maintenance planning.
