Punjab CM Inaugurates Amritsar Flyover To Ease Pilgrim Traffic

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann inaugurated a two-lane flyover on Sultanwind Link Road in Amritsar on Sunday, saying the structure is intended to ease long-standing traffic congestion in the holy city. He noted that approximately 0.15 to 0.2 million (mn) pilgrims and tourists visit the city daily for darshan at Darbar Sahib, Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border, Durgiana Mandir and Bhagwan Valmiki's birthplace, and that the overbridge will benefit those visitors. The inauguration was followed by a press conference outlining the project and related initiatives.

The project comprises a total length of 985 metres including approach roads, with the flyover itself measuring 725 metres in length and 14 metres in width. The eco-friendly scheme incorporates an RCC rainwater drain and a rainwater harvesting system for groundwater recharge. Financially the work was initially estimated at Rs 342 million (mn) but was completed for Rs 226.8 million (mn), yielding substantial savings that the government intends to deploy for other public welfare programmes.

Mann highlighted that road construction across the state is proceeding rapidly and provided a timetable for ancillary facilities. He stated that nearly 3,100 village playgrounds would be ready by July 15, around 3,000 gyms would soon be dedicated to the public, and 400 additional Mohalla Clinics were ready for inauguration, taking the total number of Aam Aadmi Clinics in the state to nearly 1,000. The remarks were framed as part of the government's broader focus on infrastructure and public welfare.

On a separate matter Mann accused opposition parties of politicising a viral video, alleging they had transformed a fake and forged clip into a religious issue and had united Akali Dal, BJP and Congress on the front. He indicated that the funds saved on the flyover project would be channelled into other development works and reiterated the administration's emphasis on completing civic projects promptly. The administration presented the flyover as a tangible step to reduce congestion for pilgrims and commuters.
