Himachal Deploys 15,000 Personnel for Road Restoration

The Himachal Pradesh Government has deployed nearly 15,000 personnel and 1,600 machines to restore road connectivity affected by heavy monsoon rainfall across the state. Restoration work is being carried out continuously, with the number of blocked roads declining from around 104 to nearly 60 recently.

The Public Works Department has positioned JCBs, bulldozers, robotic equipment and other machinery at strategic locations. Additional equipment has also been hired to support operations, while officials have been directed to reopen blocked roads within 24 hours wherever conditions permit.

PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh reviewed the restoration programme with senior officials and directed them to prioritise remote and vulnerable districts, including Mandi, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Shimla. The department is also working to maintain road connectivity during the apple season and prevent transport disruptions for farmers and horticulturists.

The state government has advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions, as cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides could cause further damage to roads, houses and orchards.
