Mankhurd Maharashtra Nagar Flyover To Open By August 2027
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has said the Mankhurd-Maharashtra Nagar flyover will be operational by August 2027, as part of measures to ease congestion in the eastern suburbs. The structure will provide a direct link from the T Junction on the Sion-Panvel highway to the existing Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road.
The T Junction is one of the major traffic choke points in the eastern suburbs and records heavy flows of vehicles travelling to and from Navi Mumbai and Pune. Motorists currently spend more than 15 minutes at the signal during peak periods, according to civic data, prompting the proposal for grade separation. The flyover is intended to decongest the junction by allowing through traffic to bypass the signal.
The scheme comprises two arms that will originate at the T Junction and join the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road. The arms measure one point four seven km and one point nine three km in length. Each arm will have two vehicular carriageways and an average width ranging between six point five metres and eight point five metres.
The cost of the bridge is estimated at Rs 19.58 billion (Rs 19.58 bn) and the civic administration has positioned the project as a major infrastructure investment for the corridor. Officials have indicated that vehicles travelling towards Navi Mumbai and Pune from the Ghatkopar side will see a significant reduction in travel time once the structure is opened. The administration has highlighted that heavy traffic density and limited road space at the junction have long caused substantial inconvenience to commuters.
Construction timelines aim for completion by August 2027, with commencement and phasing details managed by the municipal engineering department. The flyover is intended to integrate with existing road links to improve traffic flow and reduce delays for commuters in the eastern suburbs.
