CONCOR Launches Ennore to Hyderabad Rail Freight Service

Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has commenced a new rail freight service that links Ennore Port, part of the Kamarajar Port cluster in Chennai, with ICD Sanathnagar in Hyderabad. The new corridor provides containerised cargo movement directly between the eastern gateway port and a major inland logistics hub in the Deccan plateau. CONCOR positioned the launch as an expansion of its multi-modal offerings to trade and industry in Telangana and neighbouring regions.

The service connects the port cluster through intermediate logistics nodes and establishes a dedicated rail corridor for export and import cargo moving to and from Hyderabad. The route aims to integrate port operations at Ennore with inland container depots and other modal options, reducing dependence on road transport for long-haul EXIM movements. CONCOR will operate scheduled services on the corridor to facilitate regular transfers and improve supply chain predictability.

The operator expects the rail corridor to offer faster and more cost-effective alternatives to road freight for shippers and logistics providers in the Deccan region. By shifting containerised volumes onto rail, the service is intended to cut emissions associated with long-distance road haulage and support more efficient distribution chains linking the hinterland to the east coast. The move is likely to benefit exporters, importers and industrial clusters around Hyderabad by improving transit times and reducing logistics costs.

The launch adds to CONCOR's portfolio of port-connected rail services that link India's seaports with inland hubs and strengthens its role in multi-modal connectivity. The expansion underlines broader efforts to streamline EXIM logistics and to provide viable alternatives to congested road corridors. Stakeholders in the logistics and manufacturing sectors are expected to monitor service performance as volumes transfer to the new corridor.
