Railways? Shramik Specials Carry Over 2.35 Million Passengers

The Shramik Special trains operationalised by the Indian Railways have carried over 2.35 million passengers including migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to the nationwide lockdown since commencing services at the beginning of the month.

On May 19, the passenger count on Shramik Special trains crossed the 250,000-passenger mark.

The Railways commenced operation of these special services after the Ministry of Home Affairs order from May 1, on the occasion of Labour Day. Around 5,000 passengers availed of the service on the first day.

These 1773 trains were originated from the states of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chandigarh UT, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Puducherry UT, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

Also, these Shramik Special trains were terminated in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.

These Shramik Special trains are being run by the Railways with the concurrence of the state that is sending the passengers and the state which is receiving them. Proper screening of passengers is ensured before boarding the train. During the journey, passengers are served free meals and water.
