NHSRCL Invites Bids for Construction of Ahmedabad & Sabarmati Stations
The alignment also has 31 crossing bridges including six steel truss bridges.
In the last few weeks, NHSRCL has opened three technical bids covering 64 per cent (325 km out of 508 km) of the total MAHSR alignment including five HSR stations, viz. Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch and Anand/Nadiad, out of 12 stations.
HSR Stations to Be Multi-Modal Hubs
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR will traverse through Western Railway?s Ahmedabad Junction and shall be integrated with the Saraspur side of the station. The Ahmedabad HSR station would be built over the existing railway platforms 11 and 12.
To ensure seamless integration of the HSR station with other modes of rail transport, NHSRCL has designed a user-friendly station layout for Ahmedabad. An integrated building for passenger transit is planned on the eastern side of the existing railway station, where passengers will be able to swiftly switch from one mode of transport to another. The building will be equipped with escalators and elevators and will house passenger conveniences like booking offices, passenger lobby, refreshment kiosks and other amenities.
The integrated building shall provide connections to Western Railway existing foot over bridges to facilitate passenger movement to and from the Indian Railways platforms and underground metro station on the Saraspur side.
The construction of the HSR station over the existing railway lines will be quite challenging. There are multiple utilities like platform sheds, offices, signalling and telecom cables, pipelines, electrical cables, tracks, etc., along the rail tracks that are being shifted before the commencement of construction.
The functional offices of Ahmedabad railway station have already been relocated. Carrying out construction activities of high-speed rail station alongside the ongoing Ahmedabad Mega metro construction and moving man and machinery over existing railway lines without disrupting passenger and cargo traffic at Ahmedabad railway station will also be challenging.
Sabarmati being the terminal station of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR, NHSRCL has plans to develop it as a vibrant multi-modal transport hub in the region. To achieve seamless integration of various transport modes around the HSR station, a multi-modal transit terminal has been planned on the eastern side of the Sabarmati HSR station.
The multi-modal integration schemes focus on the integration of existing and planned transit facilities in the station area. The available right of way (RoW) along the existing road network has been optimally utilised for planning the inflow and outflow of estimated traffic in horizon years.
A new road under bridge (RUB) has already been constructed to provide direct entry to the proposed site of Sabarmati HSR station. This will facilitate station construction without interfering with the existing railway network on a day to day basis.
