Foundation stone laid for Rs 140 billion Ramayapatnam port in Nellore

The Ramayapatnam major port is being built in the Nellore district, and the foundation stone was recently placed by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh. The port's construction would take place over the course of two phases, costing approximately Rs 140 billion in total. Since independence, the state has only had six ports: Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada-I, Kakinada-II, Krishnapatnam, and Rawa. Currently, the state is reportedly building four more ports to increase economic activity, create jobs, and advance overall development: Ramayapatnam, Kakinada Gateway, Machilipatnam, and Bhavanapadu. According to sources, the government is also building nine fishing harbours, thus each port will indirectly employ thousands of people. The Ramayapatnam port will greatly reduce shipping costs and provide employment to 10,000 people directly and 30,000 indirectly.
