India, Nepal set up Shree Janata Belaka Secondary School Building
India's Deputy Chief of Mission in Nepal, Prasanna Shirivastava, and Nepal's Parliament Minister, Narayan Khadka, jointly inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Shree Janata Belaka Secondary School's new building in Baleka Municipality, Udayapur district, Nepal. The Indian Embassy in Nepal conveyed this information through an official press release.
The school's construction is underway with financial assistance from the government of India, amounting to NRs 37.9 million ($286k), as part of the 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation' initiative. The event, attended by public representatives, government officials, social workers, school management representatives, teachers, parents, and students, marked the collaborative effort to enhance educational infrastructure.
The press release outlined that the Government of India's grant, within the 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation' framework, will be utilised for erecting a triple-story school building, equipped with classrooms and essential infrastructure. This project, classified as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), formerly known as Small Development Projects, operates under the agreement between the governments of India and Nepal. Belaka Municipality in Udayapur is overseeing the project's implementation.
Narayan Khadka expressed gratitude for the ongoing developmental support from the Government of India, emphasising its positive impact on Nepal's priority sectors. Prasanna Shrivastava, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Kathmandu, highlighted the project's significance in the robust development partnership between India and Nepal. He affirmed India's commitment to furthering this partnership in alignment with Nepal's priorities for mutual benefit.
Shrivastava also noted the recent completion of 20 years of HICDP implementation in Nepal and acknowledged India's extensive involvement in over 550 HICDPs since 2003, spanning various sectors. The completion of 488 projects, including 84 in Koshi Province and 11 in Udayapur, underscores the collaborative efforts between the two nations.
Upon the completion of the new school building, the release anticipated improved education facilities for Shree Janata Belaka Secondary School students, contributing to the overall educational development in the region. The press release emphasised India's longstanding commitment to supporting Nepal's development, particularly in the education sector, as part of their comprehensive and cooperative relationship.
