Revamp planned for Dwarka Expressway to NH-8 roads

As per the proposed project, critical intersections and road segments will be identified for lane widening to eliminate bottlenecks and reduce travel time between the two highways. GMDA also stated that flyovers or underpasses will be considered for areas like Basai Road, Old Railway Road, and Sukhrali to facilitate smooth vehicular movement.

Apart from the enhancement and widening of the two stretches, GMDA is intending to incorporate on-street parking, construct footpaths, and establish utility ducts to prevent unnecessary excavation. Officials have indicated that the project details are being finalised, and a tender will be floated upon approval.

A senior GMDA official commented, "We have conducted a preliminary study. Some critical stretches have been identified which need to be revamped to facilitate the smooth movement of traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian. We are now working on finalising the project details and once approved, we will initiate the tender process."

Upon completion of the project, it is anticipated to enhance connectivity to Dwarka Expressway from NH-8 and offer an alternative route for commuters traveling between Jhajjar and the city. Currently, most commuters take the Basai flyover route towards Hero Honda Chowk.

The two stretches traverse through densely populated areas comprising various sectors, unplanned colonies, wholesale markets, and commercial establishments. In contrast to the more planned and wider roads on the other side of the highway, Old Gurgaon has struggled to keep pace with infrastructure development. Narrow, encroached roads, and frequent traffic jams are prevalent in this area.
