Haryana Approves Plan to Boost Agriculture in 2024-25

The state-level sanctioning committee of the "Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana" (RKVY) and "Krishonnati Yojana," chaired by Chief Secretary T.V.S.N. Prasad, approved the annual action plan (AAP) for the fiscal year 2024-25. The approved plan allocates a substantial "119.83 billion to boost agricultural productivity, support sustainable farming practices, and improve farmer livelihoods through strategic investments in infrastructure and value addition.

The total action plan for the RKVY Cafeteria scheme amounts to ?99.55 billion, while the "Krishonnati Yojana" action plan stands at Rs.20.33 billion.

During the meeting, Prasad highlighted the pressing need for water conservation and the promotion of micro-irrigation initiatives. He emphasized the collaboration of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and the Irrigation Department in implementing large-scale micro-irrigation practices. Prasad proposed establishing a micro-irrigation system on 1,000 acres of university land to serve as a practical demonstration for farmers. The Irrigation and Water Resources Department aims to cover 100,000 acres under micro-irrigation.

Furthermore, Prasad stressed the importance of transferring agricultural research from laboratories to the fields to benefit farmers more effectively. He called for the establishment of demonstration plots showcasing innovative technologies in accessible locations for farmers. He also advocated for encouraging college and university students to start food and soil testing laboratories, along with increasing public awareness about testing food products, fruits, and vegetables.

Addressing the issue of pink bollworm infestation in cotton-growing areas, attributed to agricultural waste, Prasad urged CCSHAU to adopt villages and train farmers in pest management. He underscored the necessity of continuous monitoring of preventive measures to eradicate this pest effectively.
