Centre Approved 6.5 Lakh Houses under PMAY for Maharashtra

Fadnavis described the initiative as historic, noting that 26 lakh people had registered for the scheme, with 20 lakh set to receive houses.

He stated that the Central Government had approved the construction of 6.5 lakh houses this year under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with plans to increase this allocation by another 13 lakh houses. He considered this a significant gift to Maharashtra from the Central Government.

Fadnavis also shared a letter from Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his appreciation. Chouhan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for approving 20 lakh new houses for Maharashtra under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

The letter outlined that the Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), a flagship scheme of the Government of India, which has been in effect since 1 April 2016. Its goal is to provide "Housing for All" in rural areas, supporting eligible households in constructing pucca houses with basic amenities. The Union Cabinet had approved the continuation of the scheme until March 2029, addressing the increasing housing demand in rural areas. For FY 2024-25, Maharashtra had been allocated a target of 6,37,089 houses based on the finalized Awaas+ 2018 survey lists.

Chouhan further stated that the Ministry of Rural Development had approved an additional target of 13,29,678 houses for Maharashtra during FY 2024-25 under the PMAY-G, bringing the cumulative target for the state to 19,66,767 houses. He emphasized that this was a major step toward fulfilling the Government of India's commitment to "Housing for All" in rural areas and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the scheme in Maharashtra.

Chouhan also mentioned that more than 13 lakh pucca houses were being provided in Maharashtra. He highlighted Prime Minister Modi's pledge to provide permanent housing for the poor, with plans to build twenty million pucca houses in villages and 10 million in cities. In Maharashtra, over six lakh permanent houses had already been constructed, and more than 13 lakh additional houses had now been sanctioned.
