Railways Approves Four-Line Corridor in Rayalaseema

The Indian Railways has approved expansion of the Renigunta–Guntakal railway line into a four-line corridor at an estimated cost of Rs 50 billion (50 bn).

The corridor will span about 307.97 km and is intended to ease congestion and improve passenger and freight movement across Rayalaseema.

Rail traffic in the region has risen by over 35 per cent in recent years and the section currently operates on a double line.

The conversion to four tracks is intended to create dedicated paths for both passenger and freight services to reduce interference.

It will connect key stations including Renigunta, Railway Koduru, Rajampet, Kadapa, Yerraguntla, Tadipatri, Gooty and Guntakal to increase route capacity.

The upgrade is expected to benefit districts including Tirupati, Kadapa, Annamayya and Anantapur by enabling more trains and reducing delays.

Officials say the project will provide faster and safer travel while supporting regional economic growth and improved connectivity.

Planners envisage improved punctuality and increased freight throughput once works are complete.

South Central Railway has initiated land acquisition and district authorities have been directed to expedite the process.

Projected additional passenger traffic is estimated at between 50,000 and 70,000 per day, which is expected to increase demand for services and freight capacity.

The enhanced corridor will ease bottlenecks caused by crossings and heavy traffic, allowing better scheduling and reduced transit times.

Stakeholders will monitor environmental and social impacts during the implementation phase and maintain regulatory compliance.

The project is expected to enhance network capacity and ensure smoother operations across the section.

Authorities anticipate that the upgrade will attract investment and stimulate local industries through improved logistics.

Coordination between railway officials and local administration will be necessary to manage land acquisition, environmental clearances and construction timelines.

No firm completion date has been announced but officials emphasise steady progress and prioritisation of safety.
