Barabanki-Bahraich Highway to Become UP’s First Digital Highway

Scheduled for construction by March 2025, the highway, part of NH-927, will connect Barabanki, Shravasti airport, NH-27, and the India-Nepal border. A three-metre-wide duct will house optical fibre cables, improving mobile and internet services. Companies can lease land along the route to boost connectivity.
The project addresses rising traffic demands caused by the Mahadeva Corridor and aims to reduce accidents through upgraded infrastructure. Currently, 25,000 vehicles use the highway daily, straining the Sanjay Setu bridge. The new four-lane expansion will ease travel for residents of Barabanki, Bahraich, Gonda, and Balrampur districts, as well as Nepal-bound travellers.
Part of NHAI’s nationwide digital highway initiative, the Barabanki-Bahraich project follows the success of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Hyderabad-Bengaluru Corridor, marking a significant step towards modernising India’s road infrastructure.
