India-Germany Strengthen Science Collaboration

In a significant boost to global scientific ties, Markus Söder, Minister-President of Bavaria, met India’s Union Minister for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, on April 13, 2025. The meeting reinforced Indo-German cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), with focus areas including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Technologies, Clean Energy, Electric Mobility, Green Hydrogen, and Biotechnology.

Dr. Singh praised the Indo-German 2+2 collaboration model, which brings together universities and industries from both nations for innovation-driven partnerships. He recalled the Golden Jubilee of Indo-German S&T cooperation and cited shared intellectual heritage, referencing Max Mueller’s translations of Indian scriptures.

India’s rise in biotech was underscored with over 3,000 startups and its position as the world’s largest vaccine producer. The new BIOe3 policy, emphasizing Energy, Economy, and Employment, was also highlighted. Singh pointed to India’s advancements in Space-Tech, Nuclear energy, and its global startup ranking—3rd in number of unicorns.

He stressed stronger academic ties, noting over 50,000 Indian students in German universities and encouraging more German students to study Indian culture and sciences.

The German delegation included Ambassador Dr. Philipp Ackermann, while top Indian officials from DST and DBT participated in the meeting.
