PM Launches Rs 68.80-Bn Buxar Thermal Power Plant, Key Projects in Bihar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated a series of projects in Bihar, including the Rs 68.80-billion Buxar thermal power plant from Gayaji district.
The thermal power plant is expected to significantly enhance power generation, strengthen energy security, and cater to the rising electricity demand in the region.
The Prime Minister also flagged off two new trains – the Amrit Bharat Express between Gayaji and Delhi, and the Buddhist Circuit train between Vaishali and Koderma, aimed at improving connectivity and tourism across key Buddhist destinations.
In the healthcare sector, he inaugurated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre at Muzaffarpur. The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced oncology OPD and IPD wards, operation theatres, modern laboratories, a blood bank, and a 24-bed ICU and HDU. It will offer advanced and affordable cancer care to patients within Bihar and neighbouring states, reducing the need for treatment in metropolitan centres.
As part of Namami Gange, the Prime Minister also inaugurated a sewerage treatment plant (STP) and sewerage network at Munger worth over Rs 5.20 billion, aimed at reducing the pollution load in the Ganga and improving sanitation.
He laid the foundation stone for urban infrastructure projects worth around Rs 12.60 billion, including STPs in Daudnagar, Jehanabad, Barahiya, and Jamui. Under AMRUT 2.0, he also launched water supply projects in Aurangabad, Bodhgaya, and Jehanabad.
In housing, a ‘griha pravesh’ ceremony was held for 12,000 beneficiaries under PMAY-Gramin and 4,260 under PMAY-Urban, with symbolic key handovers.
Road infrastructure also received a major boost with the inauguration of the four-lane Bakhtiyarpur–Mokama section of NH-31, worth Rs 19 billion, expected to ease congestion, reduce travel time, and improve passenger and freight movement. Later, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the 1.86-km Aunta-Simaria Bridge over the Ganga River, providing direct connectivity between Mokama in Patna district and Begusarai.
