Mitsubishi Power Wins 2,800 MW GTCC Project in Taiwan
2025-09-08
Mitsubishi Power, a power solutions brand of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, (MHI), has secured a contract for a 2,800 MW gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) project at the Tung Hsiao Power Plant, operated by Taiwan Power Company in Miaoli County.
The full turnkey engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, awarded jointly with Taiwan’s CTCI Corporation, covers five units using state-of-the-art M501JAC gas turbines as core components. The total contract value is approximately 760 billion yen (5.2 billion U.S. dollars).
The project forms part of Taiwan’s long-term power supply plan, replacing existing facilities with new plants to expand capacity and lower environmental impact. The upgraded units will support industrial and household electricity demand while contributing to the country’s net-zero goals.
Mitsubishi Power will supply the gas turbines, steam turbines and auxiliary equipment, while CTCI will oversee construction and Balance of Plant. Generators will be provided by Mitsubishi Generator Co. Operations are scheduled to begin sequentially between 2030 and 2031.
This follows the successful first phase, awarded in 2013, under which three GTCC units with M501J turbines have been in operation since 2018. The latest award underscores Taiwan Power’s trust in Mitsubishi Power and CTCI’s proven track record.
MHI Group stated it will continue advancing highly efficient GTCC plants worldwide to ensure stable electricity supply and contribute to energy decarbonisation.
