Rail Axle Output to Double as Yantra India Expands Capacity

Yantra India Limited (YIL), a state-owned defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, plans to double its annual railway axle manufacturing capacity from 35,000 to 70,000 units. The expansion aligns with the growing demand from Indian Railways and aims to strengthen domestic production capabilities.

The company will install additional machines and adopt modern manufacturing systems to achieve the target. This initiative supports the government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ missions by reducing dependence on imports and enhancing indigenous manufacturing.

YIL currently supplies forged and machined axles to Indian Railways and other public sector entities. The expanded capacity is expected to boost supply chain efficiency and contribute to the modernisation of the rail sector.
