Govt Approves Power Grid Link for Adani’s Bangladesh Plant

The Union Government has approved Adani Power’s request to link its 1,600 MW Godda plant in Jharkhand with India’s electricity grid to facilitate power supply to Bangladesh. The decision, cleared by the Ministry of Power and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), will enable the transmission of power through the Baharampur–Bheramara interconnection point between India and Bangladesh.

The project, developed under a government-to-government agreement signed in 2017, supplies power to the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) under a 25-year contract. The clearance allows Adani Power (Jharkhand) Ltd to synchronise one of its generating units with the Indian grid for operational reliability and maintenance.

Officials said the move will strengthen regional energy cooperation and optimise grid management across eastern India and Bangladesh. The Jharkhand-based ultra-supercritical plant began commercial operations in 2023 and has been supplying electricity exclusively to Bangladesh since then.
