MMRDA Installs Key Steel Span On Andheri–JVLR Link

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has completed a major construction milestone on the Andheri–JVLR Missing Link project with the installation of a 52-metre steel span at the highly congested Infinity Mall junction in Andheri West.

The span, comprising 12 steel composite girders weighing 46.5 MT each and totalling 558 MT, was launched in one of Mumbai’s most complex transit zones. The site presented significant logistical challenges, with the under-construction Metro Line 6 above the alignment and the operational Metro Line 2A running at mid-level.

Engineers had very limited working space, requiring meticulous planning to complete the launch without affecting metro operations or public movement. According to MMRDA officials, the installation demanded continuous coordination among multiple technical teams to ensure structural stability and safety. The newly installed span will form a vital link between the Missing Link corridor and the Metro double-decker system being developed along the route.

Designed to improve east–west connectivity, the Andheri–JVLR Missing Link flyover will connect Link Road in Andheri West to Poonam Nagar on the Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR). At present, commuters must navigate the heavily congested SV Road junction and the Western Express Highway, causing severe delays during peak hours.

Once completed, the new corridor will allow vehicles from Swami Samarth Nagar to bypass both bottlenecks and reach Poonam Nagar in under 20 minutes. Officials say the project will help cut travel time, fuel consumption and emissions.

Marking the milestone, MMRDA said it remains committed to building a faster and more efficient mobility network for Mumbai. “We are creating the Mumbai of tomorrow, one breakthrough at a time,” the agency stated.
