Three Firms Bid for DPR of Bengaluru–Tumakuru Metro Corridor

Three consulting firms have submitted bids for the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Bengaluru–Tumakuru Metro corridor, which will extend up to Tumakuru from Madavara. The proposed Metro line will span 59.6 km and is planned to include 27 stations, with the DPR assignment valued at Rs 200.89 million.

The bidders competing for the project are RITES, Capital Fortunes, and Aarvee Engineering Consultants. Officials said that the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) opened the bids earlier this week and the technical evaluation process is currently underway.

Once awarded, the selected consultant will be given a period of five months to prepare the DPR. The report is expected to cover key aspects such as alignment planning, station locations, ridership projections, cost estimates, land acquisition requirements, and implementation strategy for the corridor.

The proposed extension to Tumakuru has sparked mixed reactions. Critics have raised concerns over the government prioritising a long-distance extension while several areas within Bengaluru still lack Metro connectivity. However, the state government has defended the proposal, stating that the project will be taken up only under the public-private partnership (PPP) model to minimise financial burden on the exchequer.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara has maintained that the Bengaluru–Tumakuru Metro corridor is aimed at improving regional connectivity and supporting the long-term growth of satellite towns. The corridor is expected to strengthen transport links between Bengaluru and Tumakuru, potentially easing road congestion and supporting economic development along the route.

The DPR will play a crucial role in determining the project’s feasibility, funding structure, and execution timeline. Based on its findings, the government will take a final call on implementing the corridor under Phase IV or subsequent expansion plans of Namma Metro.
