The 13th edition of Excon 2025, South Asia’s largest construction equipment exhibition, concluded on a high note at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), reaffirming its stature as a global platform shaping the future of India’s infrastructure and construction ecosystem. Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the five-day event, held from December 9 to 13, 2025, brought together policymakers, manufacturers, contractors, financiers, technology providers, and global stakeholders under one roof.
Spread across an expansive 3.5 million sq. ft., Excon 2025 hosted over 1,250 exhibitors, including 134 international participants from 20 countries, and attracted an estimated 1.2 lakh business visitors. With seven international pavilions representing France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, China, and the UK, the exhibition underlined India’s growing importance in the global construction equipment landscape.
Anchored around the theme “Building India’s Tomorrow”, Excon 2025 placed a sharp spotlight on sustainability, advanced technologies, automation, and indigenisation—key pillars driving the next phase of India’s infrastructure growth.
Policy direction sets the tone
One of the major highlights of Excon 2025 was the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, whose address and key announcements reinforced the government’s intent to accelerate infrastructure development through speed, scale, and technology adoption.
During the event, Gadkari emphasised the critical role of modern construction equipment in improving project execution timelines and overall quality. He highlighted that India’s ambitious highway expansion, logistics efficiency goals, and economic growth targets demand faster construction cycles supported by advanced, fuel-efficient, and technology-enabled machinery.
The minister also unveiled a Rs 500-crore infrastructure machinery initiative, signalling a strong push towards the deployment of high-performance road construction equipment. The move was widely seen as a significant step in enabling contractors to meet tighter deadlines while maintaining international quality standards.
Gadkari reiterated that the success of infrastructure programmes depends not only on funding but also on the availability of the right equipment and technologies, noting that improved mechanisation directly translates into reduced delays, lower costs, and safer project execution.
Driving national priorities
Reflecting on the scale and significance of Excon, Dimitrov Krishnan, Co-Chairman, CII Excon, highlighted the exhibition’s broader role in India’s development journey. “Excon is more than just an event; it serves as the driving force behind India’s continuous progress. It symbolises our robust infrastructure development and strengthens India’s position as a global hub for construction equipment manufacturing,” he said.
Krishnan noted that the construction equipment industry has witnessed a strong rebound, recording 26 percent growth in FY2022-23, with total sales crossing the one-lakh-unit mark—firmly positioning India as the third-largest construction equipment market globally.
“The industry is now targeting over 15 per cent year-on-year growth over the next five years. This reflects a clear commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability, ensuring that future infrastructure projects are executed with greater precision and productivity,” he added.
As the host state, Karnataka used Excon 2025 to demonstrate its growing manufacturing and industrial capabilities. Vijaykrishnan Venkatesan, Chairman, CII Karnataka, said the exhibition played a vital role in highlighting the state’s contribution to India’s infrastructure and equipment manufacturing ecosystem.
“Karnataka is emerging as a vibrant manufacturing hub. The state government is introducing new initiatives to strengthen manufacturing and increase exports. Excon demonstrates this potential through the strong presence of OEMs and component manufacturers,” he said.
The event also aligned with Karnataka’s broader ambition to enhance its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) through industrial growth, exports, and technology-led manufacturing.
Sustainability takes centre stage
A defining feature of Excon 2025 was its strong emphasis on sustainability and next-generation technologies. Dedicated pavilions on Sustainable Power Solutions showcased electric, hybrid, and alternative fuel-powered equipment designed to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency.
Similarly, the AI, IoT and Automation Pavilion highlighted smart construction technologies, autonomous features, and digital solutions aimed at improving equipment uptime, safety, and lifecycle management.
These focus areas resonated strongly with India’s infrastructure roadmap, particularly in the context of decarbonisation, resource efficiency, and alignment with national missions such as PM Gati Shakti, Bharatmala, Smart Cities, and high-speed rail corridors.
A new addition this year was the Finance Plaza, which brought leading financial institutions onto the exhibition floor, offering visitors a one-stop platform for equipment financing solutions. The initiative was well received by contractors and fleet owners seeking easier access to credit.
Another notable initiative was the launch of the “Women Building India – Equal Opportunity Awards”, recognising organisations that have taken proactive steps to increase women’s participation in the infrastructure workforce.
Sharing his perspective on the event, R Mukundan, President Designate, CII and Chairman, Excon 2025, said the exhibition reflected the industry’s readiness to support India’s long-term growth ambitions. “The construction equipment sector plays a pivotal role in India’s economic development, as infrastructure growth and economic expansion go hand in hand. This edition of EXCON showcased forward-looking innovations, particularly in sustainability and green energy, underscoring the industry’s preparedness for the future,” Mukundan said.
“India today is the world’s third-largest construction equipment market, and we have the potential to move to second position within the next five years. Excon will continue to be a vital platform for showcasing cutting-edge solutions that support infrastructure development in India and global markets,” Deepak Shetty, Co-Chairman, EXCON 2025 said.
Over the years, Excon has evolved from a conventional exhibition into a comprehensive industry festival that the construction ecosystem eagerly anticipates every two years. Since its launch in 2000, the event has expanded significantly in scale, participation, and global relevance.
With EXCON 2025 setting new benchmarks in exhibitor participation, international engagement, and technology showcases, the exhibition once again demonstrated its ability to align industry capabilities with national priorities.
As India accelerates its infrastructure development journey—driven by policy support, increased capital expenditure, and technology adoption— Excon remains a critical platform enabling collaboration between government, industry, and global stakeholders.
By blending policy direction, innovation, sustainability, and business opportunities, Excon 2025 not only reflected the current strength of India’s construction equipment sector but also charted a clear roadmap for its future.
