Inside the World’s Largest Passenger Elevator at Jio World Centre

KONE India recently hosted a media tour at Mumbai’s Jio World Centre, offering journalists a first-hand experience of the world’s largest passenger elevator, a landmark engineering feat that has been fully operational since its unveiling in May 2022. The visit highlighted the role of advanced vertical mobility solutions in managing large crowds at one of India’s premier convention and exhibition destinations.

Designed and delivered by KONE, the record-setting elevator spans an area of 25.78 square metres, weighs 16 tonnes and has the capacity to carry up to 235 passengers in a single trip across five floors. Built to handle extremely high footfall during major events, exhibitions and conferences, the elevator plays a vital role in ensuring smooth, safe and efficient movement of people within the expansive Jio World Centre complex.

Featuring panoramic glass walls and advanced KONE technology, the elevator reflects the company’s expertise in developing customised, high-capacity People Flow® solutions for complex, high-density public environments. The project demonstrates how engineering precision and user-centric design can come together to address the mobility challenges of large urban infrastructure.
