We have introduced SMART cylinder
2025-12-23
Giuliani has a long global legacy. How is the company positioned in India today?
Abanikant Sahu (AKS): Giuliani was founded in Italy in 1954 and has over seven decades of experience in hydraulic cylinders. We established our manufacturing presence in India in 2019. Since then, the Indian market has grown steadily for us, supported by increasing localisation and closer engagement with OEM customers.
What is the key technology Giuliani is showcasing at Excon 2025?
Marco Pinotti (MP): This edition of Excon is important for us because we are introducing what we call a sensorized or ‘SMART’ cylinder. The idea is to move beyond a purely mechanical component and offer a system-level solution. We have patented a technology called eLYNX, where optical sensors are directly integrated into the hydraulic cylinder to measure position and rod movement in real time.
Integrated sensing allows OEMs to monitor cylinder position and performance without external sensors. This improves accuracy, reduces system complexity and supports advanced machine functions. For OEMs working on automation, safety and machine intelligence, such sensorized cylinders form a critical building block.
How has Giuliani’s manufacturing footprint in India evolved?
AKS: We expanded our Indian operations this year with a new facility. The current installed capacity is around 400.000 cylinders per annum. At present utilisation levels, we are producing approximately 150.000 cylinders annually, which gives us clear headroom to scale output by nearly three times as demand grows.
What role does India play in Giuliani’s global growth strategy?
MP: India is a strategic market for us, not only from a demand perspective but also as a manufacturing base. The expansion here allows us to serve Indian OEMs more efficiently while also supporting global supply requirements. Local capacity, combined with advanced technology like optical sensor integration, strengthens our long-term competitiveness.
How has the response at Excon 2025 been so far?
AKS: This is our second participation at Excon, and the response has been encouraging. Customers are increasingly interested in intelligent components rather than standalone parts, and the conversations we are having reflect that shift.
