Sinoboom exports to more than 80 countries

Sunil Jain, Senior Consultant (SAARC), Sinoboom Intelligent Equipment
Sinoboom has been steadily increasing its presence in India. What is the current scale of deployment?
We already have close to 400 machines operating in the Indian market. Adoption is progressing, but customers are understandably cautious and want to see machines in operation, understand performance and assess support capability before scaling further.
Are these machines currently manufactured locally or imported?
At present, the equipment is fully imported. There are plans under evaluation for local manufacturing, including potential facilities around Pune, but such initiatives take time. Right now, the focus is on building the right team, service structure and market confidence.
There is growing discussion around anti-dumping duties on construction equipment. How do you view this development?
Anti-dumping measures are the prerogative of the government to protect domestic industry. These decisions follow detailed investigations, and OEMs are given opportunities to present their case. If such duties are imposed, they will be based on data and due process. From an industry perspective, regulatory clarity is important, whatever the outcome.
You have had a long career with global OEMs. What motivated you to join Sinoboom?
After decades in heavy equipment, including with Caterpillar and later in access equipment, I understand both the product and the operating challenges very well. While there is natural apprehension around newer brands, what stood out for me at Sinoboom was its global outlook rather than a purely domestic focus.
Chinese equipment often faces perception challenges in India. How does Sinoboom address this?
The first concern customers raise is about origin. Our response is transparency. Sinoboom designs its machines to meet international standards rather than limiting itself to domestic benchmarks. Components such as hydraulics and control systems are sourced to global specifications, and customers are encouraged to examine the machines closely.
What are the key technical differentiators of Sinoboom’s platforms?
Safety and compliance are central. One example is load management at height. While a basket may be rated for 500 kg at lower heights, the permissible load reduces as height and outreach increase. Our machines use dual sensors — including angle and load sensors — to continuously monitor this and prevent unsafe operation. Many lower-spec machines rely on a single sensor, which increases risk.
How do global standards influence product design?
The most stringent standards are from North America and Europe. In India, there is still a lack of clearly enforced MEWP standards. Some manufacturers design only to local or Chinese norms, which may not account for performance at extreme heights. Sinoboom machines are designed to meet demanding international certification requirements, particularly for stability and load control.
How important is global market exposure in building credibility?
It is significant. Sinoboom exports to more than 80 countries, which forces the company to comply with diverse regulatory regimes and customer expectations. This global exposure shapes both product design and quality systems, and it reflects in how machines perform across different operating conditions.
There is a clear shift towards informed buying. Customers are asking more detailed questions around safety systems, standards and lifecycle performance rather than focusing only on acquisition cost. That is a positive sign for the long-term maturity of the access equipment market in India.
