HMRTC Clears DPR Changes for Palam Vihar–Dwarka Metro

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has approved revisions to the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed metro corridor connecting Rezang La Chowk in Palam Vihar with Dwarka Sector 21, officials said. The decision was taken during a board meeting held in Chandigarh.

According to officials, the revision has been necessitated by changes in the project’s alignment and integration plan. The earlier DPR was prepared on the assumption that the proposed metro line would be merged with the existing Rapid Metro network and extended up to Sector 56. However, the revised plan states that the corridor will now terminate at Cyber City and will not be integrated with the Rapid Metro line.

A senior HMRTC official said the change in alignment has led to modifications in track width and other technical parameters. “Since the assumptions in the earlier DPR have changed, it was decided to revise the report to reflect the new operational and technical requirements,” the official said.

Under the new plan, trains on the Palam Vihar–Dwarka corridor will originate and terminate at Cyber City. Passengers will be able to interchange with the Rapid Metro at the Cyber City station, instead of travelling on a merged network.

During the meeting, the HMRTC board also announced that ridership survey reports for the Rezang La Chowk–Palam Vihar project and the proposed Yashobhoomi–IFFCO Chowk corridor would be submitted to the ministry of housing and urban affairs. Traffic studies conducted by Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in July 2022 estimate daily ridership on the Rezang La Chowk corridor at around 2 lakh passengers by 2031, rising to nearly 4 lakh by 2051. The Yashobhoomi–IFFCO Chowk line is projected to carry about 1 lakh passengers by 2031 and around 1.75 lakh by 2051.

Officials said both projects proposed by HMRTC and DMRC are currently under consideration by the ministry, and there is a possibility that they may receive approval. The proposed Sector 56–Pachgaon metro project was also discussed during the meeting.
