Adani–Embraer MoU Boosts India’s Aircraft Manufacturing
Adani Aerospace and Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop, manufacture and sustain a regional transport aircraft ecosystem in India. The announcement was made at the Civil Aviation Ministry on 27 January, marking a significant step in India’s ambition to strengthen its domestic aerospace industry.
Under the agreement, local manufacturing will be implemented in a phased manner through India’s Regional Transport Aircraft programme. The partnership will also cover supply chain development, pilot training and aftermarket services. The proposed facility will assemble Embraer’s regional jets—commercial aircraft typically seating between 70 and 146 passengers and designed for short- to medium-haul routes.
Speaking on the occasion, Aviation Ministry Secretary Samir Sinha noted that Indian carriers have placed orders for more than 1,800 aircraft, reflecting strong global confidence in India’s aviation growth trajectory. However, he emphasised that a resilient and sustainable aviation ecosystem cannot depend solely on imports if India is to remain competitive in the long term.
Sinha added that India is transitioning from being a large aviation market to a manufacturing nation and aims to integrate into the global aircraft manufacturing value chain. The agreement is expected to accelerate the development of a domestic aerospace manufacturing ecosystem and expand the role of private companies in commercial aircraft production.
Embraer, the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer after Airbus and Boeing, has a strong global presence across commercial and defence aviation markets. The partnership with Adani Aerospace is expected to further enhance India’s capabilities in aircraft manufacturing and support the country’s broader industrial and technological ambitions.
