India Expands Global Ties To Strengthen Renewable Energy Ecosystem

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is collaborating with several countries and international organisations across solar, wind, green hydrogen, storage and grid integration through mechanisms such as Memorandums of Understanding, Letters of Intent, joint declarations and energy dialogues. These collaborations focus on policy exchange, capacity building, joint research, training, and industry partnerships.

MNRE and its institutions have entered into cooperation agreements with a wide range of countries, including Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, the UAE, the UK and the USA, as well as multilateral platforms such as the International Renewable Energy Agency and the India–Brazil–South Africa Trilateral Forum.

To modernise the renewable energy sector, the government has introduced reforms covering bidding frameworks, foreign investment, transmission access and consumer rights. These include a renewable energy bidding trajectory of 50 GW per year up to FY 2027–28, 100 per cent FDI under the automatic route, waiver of inter-state transmission charges, and notification of renewable consumption obligation trajectories till 2029–30.

Additional measures include quality control orders, approved lists of models and manufacturers for solar and wind equipment, standard bidding guidelines for grid-connected renewable projects, and policies for offshore wind energy and wind repowering. The Green Energy Corridor scheme is supporting transmission infrastructure for renewable power evacuation, while green energy open access rules and market-based mechanisms such as the Green Term Ahead Market are improving access and liquidity.

The government is also promoting digitalisation and green innovation through platforms under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM, along with the use of geospatial tools and digital monitoring systems to improve project planning, efficiency and transparency.
