Häfele begins India manufacturing with new Maharashtra facility

Häfele has begun operations at a new local production facility in Maharashtra, marking a significant step in the company’s localisation strategy and reinforcing its commitment to the Make in India initiative. The move is aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing while building a scalable ecosystem to support future growth in India.

The company’s global production and supply chain network already includes multiple manufacturing facilities across Europe. The new India-based production setup extends these capabilities into one of Häfele’s most important growth markets, supporting local value creation and enhancing operational agility.

Production at the facility has commenced with the MatrixBox Premium+ drawer system range. Designed for modern kitchens, the solution offers smooth soft-close functionality and noiseless performance while supporting heavy-duty usage. The system also provides design flexibility through a range of finishes and customisable add-ons. Häfele said the site will support the phased addition of more products and categories over time in line with market demand and localisation plans.

The current setup is intended as an initial step, enabling local manufacturing while the company develops a larger manufacturing hub to support expanded operations in India. The initiative also focuses on early capability building, workforce training, process validation and supply-chain development to support long-term growth.

Alongside the production launch, Häfele has expanded its Service+Customised capabilities in India by producing bespoke aluminium profiled cabinet fronts at its facility in Mumbai. These pre-assembled and pre-drilled components are designed to improve precision, installation efficiency and design flexibility across kitchen, wardrobe and furniture applications.

“Strengthening our global production network requires strategic investments in key growth markets like India. This initiative enables early process validation, enhances financial efficiency, and builds organisational readiness, while ensuring that governance, quality, and compliance standards remain fully aligned with Häfele’s global benchmarks,” said Michael Distl, Chief Financial Officer, Häfele Group.

Highlighting the operational vision, Boris Katic, Chief Operating Officer, Häfele Group, said: “Building strong manufacturing capabilities begins with people, finding the right processes and supply chains. This initiative is part of our broader vision to decentralise global supply chains by creating strategic sourcing and production hubs in key regions.”

“This marks a decisive step forward in our ‘Make in India’ strategy,” added Frank Schloeder, Managing Director, Häfele South Asia. “It enables us to build manufacturing capabilities locally, nurture talent, and respond faster to the needs of the Indian market.”
