PM Dedicates Rail Projects To Boost Connectivity In Gujarat

The Prime Minister will dedicate the Kanalus–Jamnagar doubling project, covering 28 kilometre (km), which forms part of the Rajkot–Kanalus doubling project of 111.20 km, and the quadrupling of the Gandhidham–Adipur section, covering 10.69 km. The doubling is expected to enable faster and more frequent services and allow additional trains between Rajkot and Jamnagar, easing passenger movements and business travel. Jamnagar is expected to benefit from improved freight evacuation for petroleum refining and brass industries and faster movement of agricultural produce to markets.

The quadrupling of the Gandhidham–Adipur corridor will enhance capacity around port and industrial zones in Kutch and ease congestion caused by heavy freight traffic. Improved turnaround times for goods trains and more reliable passenger services are expected to support tourism and commuting and to strengthen port led development by facilitating access to inland markets. Officials say these works will contribute to smoother logistics and reduced delays for freight operators.

The Himmatnagar–Khedbrahma gauge conversion, covering 54.83 km, will bring broad gauge connectivity to tribal and semi urban areas of northern Gujarat and enable faster trains and better services. The new Khedbrahma–Himmatnagar–Asarwa train service will provide direct access to Ahmedabad for residents of Sabarkantha, improving last mile connectivity and access to essential services. The service should benefit daily commuters, students and patients by offering an affordable and time efficient travel option.

Together the projects should reduce travel time, improve reliability and boost trade between hubs, ports, agricultural regions and urban centres. They are likely to expand market access for farmers and small traders and support employment and tourism. Officials say the works reaffirm commitment to a modern railway network.
