The project carries an estimated total cost of Rs 69,690 million, equivalent to Rs 69.69 bn. Of this, Rs 34,850 million will be used for construction and Rs 15,740 million for land acquisition. A major hurdle is forest clearance, since about 70 hectares of forest land and nearly 9,000 trees lie within the proposed alignment. The forest department has recommended alignment changes to reduce tree felling, while the highway authority has warned that rerouting would increase costs and might require demolition of houses. The National Highways Authority is awaiting final approval from the forest authorities, and the delay has postponed the start of civil works.

Once complete, the highway is expected to improve access to the Rupaidih border with Nepal and to strengthen the India–Nepal trade corridor, which officials say will support regional commerce. Travel time between Lucknow and Bahraich is likely to fall to about 90 minutes, improving access to tourism and religious sites across the area. Administrators are pursuing clearances and compensation settlements to enable timely implementation and to maximise economic benefits for the districts involved.
