Delhi Airport T3–T2 Subway To Cut Walk From 750 Metres To 80 Metres

Passengers moving between Terminal Three and Terminal Two at Delhi airport are set to gain a direct underground connection linking the Airport Express Line metro station at Terminal Three to Terminal Two. The project is intended to improve connectivity and reduce transfer times within one of the country’s busiest aviation hubs. The link will include clear wayfinding and sheltered access to streamline passenger flows.

Once operational, the pedestrian subway will reduce the walking distance from nearly 750 metres to about 80 metres, cutting the on-foot transfer to a short corridor. At present passengers either make the long walk or use shuttle bus services while handling luggage and personal items. The shorter route is designed to ease movement, particularly during peak travel periods.

The construction is a joint undertaking by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), reflecting coordination between urban transit and airport authorities. Work on the tunnel commenced in June last year and has been progressed on a priority basis. The alignment runs beneath airport precincts to connect concourse levels with minimal surface disruption.

Project planners have focused on passenger comfort and operational resilience, incorporating features to facilitate luggage movement and accessibility. The underground link is expected to reduce pressure on shuttle services and shorten connection times between flights arriving at different terminals. Technical teams have scheduled works to avoid major interference with airport operations.

Officials indicated that the subway is likely to be completed by the end of this year, subject to final approvals and testing. The completion would provide a quicker and more comfortable transfer option for travellers using Terminal Two and Terminal Three.
