Marsons Receives PGCIL Approval For Supply Of Power Transformers

Marsons has received vendor approval from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited for the supply of power transformers, making it the only PGCIL-approved Extra High Voltage transformer manufacturer in Eastern India and in ten neighbouring states, including West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram.

The approval marks a milestone for the company and for the region's power infrastructure. PGCIL acts as the central transmission utility and is the country’s single largest procurer of high?voltage equipment, and vendor approval involves a rigorous assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality management systems, high?voltage test facilities, type?test credentials and technical capability. The status is widely regarded as a benchmark of quality and reliability for state utilities and large infrastructure developers.

Marsons said the clearance will enhance its competitive standing with state utilities and transmission corporations across India and expand its addressable market for Extra High Voltage transformers. Eastern India and the north?eastern states are at the centre of a major national transmission expansion drive, with the corridors identified as priority areas for hydropower development, renewable integration and load growth. Ongoing central transmission projects aim to strengthen inter?state and intra?state grid infrastructure across the region.

Policy shifts and anticipated governance changes are expected to catalyse a new wave of infrastructure investment, positioning local manufacturers to benefit from increased project flows. Marsons brings over 65 years of engineering heritage and operates a 45,000 sq.m facility with an annual installed capacity of 12,000 MVA. The company operates a NABL-accredited high?voltage laboratory with a Haefely Trench impulse generator rated at 1,600 kV / 80 kJ, and its transformers are type?tested up to 160 MVA / 220 kV; it holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, CE and BIS approvals. With more than 300,000 transformers installed globally and exports to the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Bangladesh, Marsons is positioning itself to play a central role in powering the eastern region's growth.
