Engineering Safety into Every Lift

Safety is no longer just a compliance requirement—it has become a business imperative. On modern construction sites, a single mistake can have devastating human and financial consequences. Every lift carries two possibilities: progress or peril. Suspended loads weighing several tonnes, restricted visibility, uneven terrain, and split-second operator decisions leave little room for error.

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), construction remains one of the world’s most hazardous industries, accounting for nearly one in five workplace fatalities globally. In India, the sector contributes approximately 16.4 per cent of global occupational accidents despite employing only around 7.5 per cent of the global workforce. Research estimates that more than 474 million workers suffer occupational injuries or illnesses annually, while nearly 2.3 million lose their lives to work-related accidents and diseases worldwide. Human error, overloading, poor visibility and unsafe equipment operation continue to be among the leading causes of lifting incidents, making conventional cranes increasingly inadequate for today’s complex infrastructure projects.

Recognising this reality, Action Construction Equipment (ACE), India’s largest crane manufacturer, has fundamentally re-engineered crane safety through its Ultra Series of NextGen pick-and-carry cranes. Instead of simply adding safety features, ACE has developed an intelligent safety ecosystem that actively prevents unsafe operations before they occur. The result is a decisive shift from reactive safety alerts to intelligent autonomous intervention that protects operators, equipment and project timelines.

From alerts to intelligent autonomous intervention

Traditional crane safety systems flag danger and step back, leaving the final call to the operator. On a live construction site, that gap of a few seconds is where accidents happen.

ACE closes it by building intelligence into the machine itself. Its proprietary ACE Ultra Features read operating conditions continuously; assess risk in real time, and step in the moment safety parameters are breached, without waiting for the operator to react. The machine does not just flag the danger; it refuses to let the danger happen, and it does so without slowing the work down.

SCOS: Eliminating the risk of overloading

Overloading remains one of the most common causes of crane instability, equipment damage and lifting accidents, largely because conventional cranes let operators override the warning through a bypass switch and carry on regardless.

ACE’s Safe Crane Operation System (SCOS) takes that option off the table. The instant an overload is detected, the system locks out boom extension and load hoisting, allowing only corrective movements such as boom retraction, boom lowering and controlled load lowering.

The real breakthrough is how tightly SCOS controls its own override. The bypass stays disabled by default and can be activated only by an authorised user through the ACE Live mobile application, closing the loophole that conventional systems leave wide open and building accountability directly into the process.

This is safety built into the machine, not left to the operator's judgement in the moment.

ALSS: Intelligent speed control for safer load handling

Moving a heavy load too fast is one of the surest ways to destabilise a crane during pick-and-carry operations, and tight project schedules only push operators toward that risk.

ACE’s Advanced Load Sensing System (ALSS) removes the temptation entirely. It tracks the load on the hook continuously and, the moment it crosses the prescribed threshold, shifts the crane into low-speed, four-wheel-drive mode automatically. Once the load comes off, normal travel mode resumes on its own.

By adjusting the machine’s behaviour to the load in real time, ALSS cuts tipping risk and keeps material moving safely, without asking productivity to pay the price.

RAS: Stability that holds through every turn

Confined sites, uneven ground and sharp articulation angles create some of the toughest lifting conditions a crane will face, and every change in angle changes what the crane can safely lift.

ACE’s Remote Articulation Stability (RAS) recalculates the crane’s safe working capacity as the articulation angle shifts, derating lifting capacity automatically wherever needed and pushing the updated Safe Working Load straight to the Safe Load Indicator (SLI). Operators get a number they can trust, not a guess, even in the tightest spaces.

The result is stability that holds through every turn, along with sharper precision and control exactly when the site demands it. 

ACE Live: Powering an Integrated Safety EcosystemWhile SCOS, ALSS and RAS each address specific operational risks, their true strength lies in how they work together. Collectively, they create an intelligent safety architecture that continuously monitors machine behaviour, anticipates unsafe operating conditions and automatically intervenes before incidents occur. By reducing reliance on operator judgement, minimising equipment stress and enhancing machine reliability, the ACE Ultra Series is engineered to prevent accidents, not merely respond to them.

Safety, however, extends beyond the machine. Through ACE Live Telematics, India’s first IoT-enabled construction equipment platform, ACE connects operators, site supervisors and fleet managers through a single intelligent ecosystem.
