Coal India to miss production deadline

Coal India has informed that it may take at least two more year to meet the production target of ?one billion tonne by 2020? set by the government, due to the existing ground realities. A sharp rise in renewable energy sources is compelling Coal India to review its earlier production goals, the company has said in its latest annual report. The company has also said in the report that there was an urgent need to revisit its one billion tonne output programme following changes in the environmental paradigm and coal demand. The company had produced 567 million tonnes (MT) coal in fiscal 2018 and targets to produce 630 MT in the current fiscal.
