Mhaisal lift irrigation scheme will be powered by solar energy

The Mhaisal lift irrigation facility, which takes water from the Krishna river and distributes it for agricultural and drinking uses in the rain-shadow areas of Sangli and Solapur districts, will now be powered by solar energy.

On a trial basis, the state irrigation agency has chosen the Mhaisal lift irrigation scheme to run on solar power. Following a visit to Mhaisal in Sangli district, German Bank officials have agreed to provide low-interest rate financing to the state irrigation department.
