Govt to create sustainable waste management model for Wullar Lake

Garbage from 33 villages is dumped into Wular Lake without any sort of treatment, endangering the lake's wildlife and plants.
The government has chosen five out of the 33 villages as trial sites for the development of a long-term, scientific waste management approach.
Additionally, the 4.35 sq km of the lake that had become seriously silted up has been restored by WCMA.
The first phase has begun and will be finished by the end of the following year. The boardwalk will have amenities for bird watching, viewpoint points, and bike lanes.
Famed for its fish and water chestnuts, Wular Lake. Around 4000 tonne of chestnut and 5000 tonne of fish are generated from the lake each year.
