MahaMetro Targets Completion of Nag River Widening by May

MahaMetro has already completed about 15% of the work, and the remaining tasks are set to be finished by May 31, according to a senior official. The project also includes installation of escape gates, with tenders expected to be floated once technical approvals are finalised.
Flooding in September 2023 caused significant damage due to the narrow riverbed. An irrigation department study recommended expanding the river’s width to 18 metres to restore its flow capacity and reduce the risk of future floods.
Despite previous tender failures, the new design includes radial gates and a safer installation site behind the Gajanan Maharaj temple.
