India-engineered products are gaining traction in export markets

Dr Venkat Srinivas, Business Head – Mahindra Truck, Bus and Construction Equipment, and Executive Director & CEO – SML Mahindra, Mahindra Group

What was Mahindra’s broader showcase focus at Excon 2025?
India’s road construction ecosystem increasingly requires compact, efficient machines, particularly for urban and last-mile projects. COMPAX has been developed to address these specific needs, offering effective compaction in space-constrained and demanding site conditions typical of Indian projects.

COMPAX strengthens our roadbuilding portfolio, which already includes the RoadMaster motor grader. Along with the EarthMaster backhoe loader, it allows us to support multiple stages of road construction using machines designed specifically for Indian requirements.

In addition to COMPAX, we showcased our CEV-V range of construction equipment. These machines are engineered to meet current emission norms while delivering improved comfort, productivity and performance, ensuring customers can transition smoothly without compromising efficiency.

How does ‘Made in India, Made for India’ reflect in your products?
All our construction equipment is engineered around Indian operating conditions and manufactured locally at our Chakan facility. Indigenous manufacturing allows us to offer machines that balance robustness, affordability and ease of service — critical factors for Indian contractors.

India remains our core market, driven by sustained investments in roads and infrastructure. At the same time, our India-engineered products are also gaining traction in export markets, particularly in Africa and Latin America, reinforcing the relevance of India-focused design.

How important is aftersales support in the Indian construction equipment market?
Aftersales support is a key differentiator. Mahindra’s construction equipment network now covers over 136 touchpoints across the country, supported by dealerships, authorised service centres, spares outlets and mobile service vans. This ensures higher uptime and customer confidence.

What role does fuel efficiency play in customer decision-making today?
With rising fuel costs, customers increasingly evaluate machines on productivity per litre of diesel rather than just headline fuel consumption. This principle is central to our equipment design philosophy, especially across the CEV-V backhoe loader range.
